Enhancing Digital Workflows with Smart Chips

Modified on: Mon, Aug 4, 2025 2:49 PM

You can now make documents more efficient and easier to use with Google Workspace's Smart Chips. Just type "@" in your Google Doc, Sheet, or Slide, and a menu of suggestions will appear. With smart chips you can quickly link to and preview information about:

  • People: Easily mention colleagues and access their contact details, email, or even schedule a meeting directly from the chip.
  • Files: Link to other Google Drive files (Docs, Sheets, Slides) and get a quick preview of their content without leaving your current document.
  • Dates and Events: Insert dynamic dates or link to Google Calendar events to see details and even join video calls.
  • Places: Embed locations and get a quick Google Maps preview.
  • And more: Smart Chips can also include dropdown menus for status tracking, stopwatches, timers, and even integrate with third-party applications for richer data.

Simply type an "@" in your Google Doc, Sheet, or Slide, and a menu of suggestions will appear. Select the type of Smart Chip you want to insert, or start typing to narrow down your options (e.g., "@John Doe" for a person, "@project plan" for a file).
