Wireless Troubleshooting 101 Guide

Mac

Restarting your computer

  • We recommend a full restart of your computer, first

Check your Time and Date

  • On your Mac, choose Apple menu  > System Settings, click General  in the sidebar, then click Date & Time on the right. (You may need to scroll down)

  • Turn on “Set time and date automatically,” click Set, then enter a network time server for your region

  • Turn on “Set time zone automatically using your current location.”

Check VPN and Third-Party Security Apps

Use the Built-in Diagnostic Tools

  • On your Mac, quit all open apps
  • Press and hold the Option key on your keyboard while clicking Wi-FiNo alt supplied for Image in Control Center or the menu bar
  • Then choose Open Wireless Diagnostics from the menu
  • Follow the onscreen instructions to analyze your network connection
  • After the analysis is complete, click the Info buttons  in the Summary pane to learn more about each item in the list

Reconnecting to the Eduroam Network 

  • On your Mac, choose Apple menu  > System Settings

  • Select Wi-Fi on the left-hand side
  • Click on Details next to Eduroam

  • Next select, Forget This Network and select OK

  • Attempt to connect to the Eduroam network
  • You will then be prompted for you WFU credentials (Enter your full @wfu.edu account as the username)

Restarting your computer

  • We recommend a full restart of your computer, first

Check your network status

  • Select the Network, Sound, or Battery icons on the right side of the taskbar

  • Check if Eduroam shows Connected. If it displays a status other than Connected, select a Wi-Fi network you recognize from the list of available networks. Then, click on the network and attempt to connect
  • If you can successfully connect to WFU Guest or WFU Legacy, please continue to the next step
  • If you cannot connect to WFU Guest or any WFU network, please skip to - Use Network Reset

Forget and reconnect to Eduroam

  • Select the Start button > Select Settings > Select Network & internet > Wi-Fi

  • Select Manage known networks

  • Select Forget next to Eduroam

  • Select the Network, Sound, or Battery icons on the right side of the taskbar
  • Select Eduroam from the available network list and select Connect
  • You will then be prompted to enter your WFU username (@wfu.edu) and password

Use Network Reset

  • Select the Start button > Select Settings  > Network & internet

  • Select Advanced network settings > Network reset

  • On the Network reset screen, select Reset now > Yes to confirm
  • Wait for your PC to restart
  • Once logged in, attempt to reconnect to Eduroam
