If you have recently changed your Gmail password, you will need to update the Mail app on your Mac or iPhone.
For macOS
Step 1
- Open System Settings
- Click the Apple menu and select System Settings (or System Preferences on older macOS versions).
- Click Internet Accounts.
- Select your Gmail account.
Step 2
- Re-authenticate Your Account
- If your password has changed, you'll likely see a message saying, "Account needs attention" or similar.
- Click Re-enter Password or Sign in.
- A Google sign-in window will appear—enter your new Gmail password and follow the prompts to allow Mail access.
- Once signed in, close the settings window.
Step 3
- Restart Mail App
- Quit the Mail app and reopen it.
- Check if your Gmail is syncing properly.
For iOS (iPhone & iPad)
Step 1
- Open Mail Account Settings
- Open the Settings app.
- Scroll down and tap Mail.
- Tap Accounts.
- Select your Gmail account.
Step 2
- Sign Back Into Gmail
- If prompted, tap Re-enter Password or Sign In.
- A Google login page will open—enter your new Gmail password and follow the prompts.
- Allow access if required.
- Tap Done to save changes.
Step 3
- Restart Mail App
- Close the Mail app and reopen it.
- Check if Gmail is syncing properly.
Troubleshooting
Still Not Working? Remove & Re-Add Gmail
- Go to Settings > Mail > Accounts.
- Select your Gmail account and tap Delete Account.
- Tap Add Account, choose Google, and sign in with your new password.
