Quick Guide to Google Chat in Google Workspace

Enhance collaboration and communication with Google Chat 

  • Google Chat is a Google Workspace tool that allows users to easily message and collaborate with anyone at Wake Forest. 
  • In addition to in-person conversation, virtual meetings, and email communication, Google Chat is a great tool for quick correspondence, providing an informal-professional channel of communication.
  • Integrated with many other Google Workspace tools such as Gmail, Drive, Calendar, Meet, Docs, Slides, Sheets, and more, Google Chat is the tool for simplifying one-on-one communication, team tasks, group projects, club organizations, and more.

How to Access Google Chat

Laptop/Browser Access

  • Make sure you are logged into your Wake Forest Google Account in Browser (for best experience use the Google Chrome or Mozilla FireFox Browser)
  • Once logged into you Wake Forest Google Account, there are several ways you can access Google Chat:

Mobile App Access

Access Google Chat in Gmail Application

  • Google Chat is also accessible through the Gmail Application via a computer broswer tab or on the Gmail Mobile App

Start Google Chatting

  • Once in Google Chat, click the "New Chat" button.
  • Start typing a name or their current Wake Forest email address until the contact pops-up.
  • Click the name/profile and press, "Start Chat" to begin or continue adding names to create a "Group" Google Chat.
  •  Once a Chat is created, you can send/react to messages, upload/share files, quickly create and send Google Calendar invites within the chat or chat group, instantly send a video call link to continue conversations virtually, and more.
