Uninstalling Cisco Socket Filter on macOS

Modified on: Wed, Nov 1, 2023 5:37 AM

There has been an identified issue related to the Cisco AnyConnect Socket Filter application and macOS Ventura. While we do not need the Cisco Socket Filter component for VPN access at Wake Forest, it’s installed by default in the Cisco VPN package. Our testing shows removing this component resolves the connectivity issues. If anyone is currently experiencing this connectivity issue, we recommend that you follow the steps below to delete the Cisco AnyConnect Socket Filter app.

  • Open Finder and navigate to Applications > Cisco
  • Delete or drag the Cisco AnyConnect Socket Filter.app to the trash.
  • If prompted to delete system extensions, click Continue.
  • If prompted to authenticate, enter your computer password and click OK.

If you have questions regarding this issue, please contact the IS Service Desk.
