Set up Chrome browser profiles to manage your Google accounts

Benefits of using Chrome browser profiles

If you use your computer for work, school, and personal browsing, perhaps you have experienced frustration when separating and organizing your WFU and school accounts.

Add profiles in your Chrome browsers to easily identify, manage, and use your Google accounts. Keeping your personal Google account in a separate Chrome browser profile, allows you to easily access WFU resources managed by WFU authentication without any confusion.

Refer to this support article on how to create Chrome browser profiles.

Once your new profiles are set up, you can export and import your bookmarks and sync settings across your devices. For security purposes, do not sync profiles on public computers.

If you are signed into your browser, it’s easy to check which Google account you are using by simply clicking the top right icon with your initials or profile picture.

Managing Pop-Ups of “Your organization will manage this profile”

You may notice the following pop-up message appearing when you sign into your WFU account outside of an existing Google Chrome profile or Guest profile.

Your organization will manage this profile

This account ([email protected]) is managed by wfu.edu

You’re adding a managed profile to this browser. Your administrator has control over the profile and can access its data. Bookmarks, history, passwords, and other settings can be synced to your account and managed by your administrator.

The language above is an automated message from Google to users on Chrome version 102 or newer to give you the option to create a new profile for your WFU account if you want to avoid merging bookmarks, history, and passwords.

Wake Forest University does NOT monitor your bookmarks, browsing history, passwords, or other synced settings stored in your Chrome profile. The only information WFU receives when you sign in to a Chrome profile is your email address, your operating system (OS), OS version, and the date/time you first and last synced the profile, but this information is not actively monitored.

To prevent the popup from continuing to appear when you log into your WFU Google account make sure you are signed into your Chrome profile or use Guest Mode.
