Lookup Printer IP Address on Mac OS X

Modified on: Mon, Nov 8, 2021 1:15 PM

When adding a network printer to your Apple computer, you will have to do so via the IP address instead of the printer's network name. Please follow these instructions to locate the IP address of the printer you are attempting to add to your computer.

  • Click on the "Spotlight" icon in the top menu bar (far right)

  • Type "Terminal" in the search field and press "Enter".

  • Enter the command "nslookup " and the printer's network name in the field below - you will need to add .printer.wfu.edu to the end of the network name. For example, ZSR-207-XRX will need to be entered as nslookup ZSR-207-XRX.printer.wfu.edu. The result will include the IP address of the printer.  In this example the IP address of 10.48.250.22 is returned.

You will then use that IP address to add the printer to your Apple computer. If you need any assistance with this process, please contact the Service Desk at 336-758-4357 or Submit a Ticket.
