A third level domain is a new domain preceding wfu.edu, such as newtld.wfu.edu. There is a formal governing document that describes the TLD request procedure but, in short, both Information Systems and Communications and External Relations (CER) must approve new TLD requests.
Fourth level domain requests that use an existing third level domain (newdoman.existingtld.wfu.edu) do not require approval and may be requested by submitting a ticket.
