What is an email alias?
An email alias is simply a forwarding email address. Email aliases are not email accounts and do not have a password. (eg. an email alias wfuisawesome@wfu.edu is forwarded to help@wfu.edu, any email that is sent to wfuisawesome@wfu.edu will be received by help@wfu.edu). In addition to receiving the email, you can setup your account to send as the alias (eg. using the previous example I can respond to an email as wfuisawesome@wfu.edu even though I'm actually sending it from help@wfu.edu)
Where can I get an email alias?
If you do not already have an WFU Alias created, you must first request one from the WFU IS Service Desk. Call the Service Desk at 336.758.4357 or email help@wfu.edu.
How do I setup my account to send as an email alias?
Please see this Google knowledge article on how to add an email alias to your account.
In your WFU Google Mail account, after you've added the alias to your account, to send an email from the alias, click on Compose.
A new From field will be present, click on the arrow, it will list the different options of email address to send from (your WFU Google Mail or the Alias account).
Your @wfu.edu stays the default mail account within your WFU Google Mail, you will have to choose the Alias each time you want to reply or send new email from the Alias.
If you have any questions about this process, please call the Service Desk at 336.758.4357 or email help@wfu.edu.
