Google Account Setup on Mac

Email Setup on Mac El Capitan and later

  • Begin by opening System Preferences on your Mac.
  • Click on Internet Accounts
  • Select "Google"
  • Sign in with your WFU email address and password when prompted
  • Ensure that Mail is checked.  You may select he other apps as needed, but they are optional.

Email Setup on Mac Yosemite and earlier

These instructions are written primarily for Yosemite.  Additional configuration may be needed for Maverick or earlier.

  • Begin by opening System Preferences on your Mac.
  • Click on Internet Accounts
  • Select Add Other Account (it is at the bottom of the list)
  • Check Add a Mail account and then hit Create.
  • Enter your name, your full WFU email address and password when prompted and then hit Create.
  • At the bottom of the window an alert will appear that says the account must be manually configured. Press Next.

Incoming Mail Server Info Window

  • Account Type: IMAP
  • Mail Server: imap.gmail.com
  • User Name: Enter your full WFU email address
  • Password: Enter your email password
  • Press Next

Fill out server settings

  • Maverick and earlier: On the Incoming Mail Server Info Window:
  • Leave Path Prefix blank
  • Port: 993
  • SSL: checked
  • Authentication: Password
  • Press Next

Outgoing Mail Server Info Window

  • SMTP Server: smtp.gmail.com
  • Username: Enter your full WFU email address
  • Password: Enter your email password
  • Press Create

  • Ensure that Mail is checked.  You may select he other apps as needed, but they are optional.

Your WFU Gmail should now be configured.  Please allow up to a minute for your folders to appear in the Mail application.

Calendar Setup on Mac

To use Calendar with your WFU account, please set up your email account per the directions above. Then:

  • Choose Apple Menu () > System Preferences.
  • Select Internet Accounts.
  • Select your @wfu.edu email account
  • You may need to enter your account credentials.
  • Make sure the option "Calendars" is selected (checked) to display the events associated with this account in the Calendar app.
