Enabling the Touchpad
- To activate the Touchpad pointing device, click the Trackpoint icon in the System tray (looks like three boxes with red dot in center) and click Enable Touchpad.
- Once you have enabled the Touchpad, you can disable the Trackpoint by clicking Disable Trackpoint.
Using an External Mouse
The ThinkPad includes an integrated Trackpoint pointing device and a Touchpad, which function as a mouse. To use an external mouse with the ThinkPad, use a USB or Bluetooth enabled mouse.
Battery Facts
- The battery is under warranty for one year from Wake Forest’s date of purchase. If the battery fails after the first year, you may purchase a new battery, or use the ThinkPad on A/C power.
- Lithium-ion batteries have a limited number of life cycles. Each time the battery is used, it constitutes a life cycle.
- The battery is charging whenever the ThinkPad is plugged into A/C power, even if the ThinkPad is not turned on.
- The Lithium-ion battery should provide one to three hours of operation. Place the curser over the battery gauge in the system tray for estimate time of battery charge remaining.
Conserving Battery Power
- Adjust the display brightness control to the lowest comfortable level using the Fn key and the Home and End keys.
- Remove any CDs or DVDs from the CD-RW/DVD-RW drive when possible.
- Close any programs you are not using.
- If you are not using a wireless connection, turn off the wireless card radio by pressing Fn+F5, choosing the wireless radio tab and clicking the turn off button. You may also turn the radio off by using the switch on the left front of the ThinkPad.
- The feature called Battery Stretch will only minimally extend the battery life.
Brightness control
To change the screen brightness, hold down the Fn key in the lower left corner of the keyboard and use the Home key to increase the brightness and the End key to decrease it.
