Student Telephone Service

Students may request a telephone line in their rooms. The landline package provides a touch-tone telephone line to your residence hall room with University and local service. Your friends and relatives can call your room directly; be sure to give them your new telephone number, including the area code (336). You are required to provide your own telephone.

Call waiting informs you, while you are on a call, that another party is trying to reach you. The party trying to reach you hears ringing and you hear the call waiting tone.

Call-waiting comes standard with all student phone lines.

Call Waiting Instructions:

1. Listen for the call waiting tone.

2. Inform the party with whom you are speaking that you are going to answer a waiting call.

3. Press & hold down the switchhook for one second, then release it.

4. Speak with the calling party.

5. To return to the original caller, press the switchhook again.

The call waiting tone is one short tone followed ten seconds later by a short reminder tone. No further notification is given. If you do not answer the call waiting tone, the calling party continues to hear ringing until he or she hangs up.
