Repair Information

Where to Call for Repair
Dial 758-4357 to speak to a Service Desk consultant. The Service Desk consultant will record the information related to your problem and submit your request to a telecommunications technician.

When you submit a repair request, you are authorizing a telephone technician to enter your residence hall room. Employees at your residence hall front desk can provide access to your room for these repairs.

What Telecommunications Repairs
Information Systems repairs or replaces modular jacks and telephone lines at no cost unless the phone user is responsible for the damage. In such cases, "time and material" may be charged to complete the repair.

Information Systems does not repair non-University-owned equipment. For repair of non-University equipment, call or write the supplier.

Testing Your Phone
In many cases, you can determine whether your telephone problems stem from your personal telephone or from the telephone jack you are using. To test your telephone, plug it into a neighbor's telephone jack before calling the Service Desk. One of two things may occur.
  • If the phone does not work in either phone jack (yours or your friend's) the problem may be in your telephone equipment. If so, call or write the supplier of the telephone or purchase a new telephone from a local retailer.

  • If the phone works in your friend's jack but not yours, the problem may be in the phone jack in your room. If so, call the Service Desk (xHELP) to request a repair.
