Apply Microsoft Updates

All ThinkPads should install all High Priority Windows Updates.  Below are the update instructions for Windows XP and Windows Vista:

Windows XP

1. Open Internet Explorer by going to Start> Run. Type iexplore.exe
2. Click Tools > Windows Update.
3. If you see Microsoft Update in the upper left corner of the window, continue to Step 9. If you see Windows Update in the upper left corner of the window, continue to Step 4.  For Windows Vista, proceed to Step 9.
4. Click Microsoft Update on the Menu Bar.
5. A new window will open, click Start Now. Click Continue.
6. If prompted, follow the onscreen instructions to install the ActiveX Control.
7. Click Install on the Internet Explorer Security Warning window.
8. Click Check for Updates.
9. Once the Microsoft Update page loads, click the Express button
Note: You may receive a prompt to install updates to Microsoft Update. Click Install. If you receive an error indicating that you can not reach Microsoft's Update Server, exit Internet Explorer and return to Step 1.
10. The site will check for new updates.  Please allow a few minutes for this process.
11. Follow the prompts to update Microsoft software.
12. When presented with the list of available updates, click Install Updates to install all available updates.
13. Restart the computer when prompted.
Note: Repeat Steps 1-13 until the Microsoft Update confirms that all High Priority updates have been installed. If you have not installed Microsoft updates previously, this may take multiple restarts.
