1. Returned mail: user unknown

Problem:
This error could be caused by misspelling the email address or by sending mail to an email address that no longer exists.

Solution:
In order to correct this, try to send the message again and make sure that you verify the email address that you are using.

2. Returned mail: Insufficient permission

Problem:
The cause of this error is that one of the email addresses that was sent a message is over the Wake Forest alloted mail quota of 12.5 MB. To discover which email address did not receive the original message look for the line below. The email address in the error message will be listed in the same location as the one below in bold.

"bellmail: cannot append to /usr/spool/mail/userjd0"

Everyone did receive the original message except for this one email address- so there is no need to resend your message to everyone.

Solution:
Remove the user from the mailing list and/or have them contact the Help Desk at 758-HELP for help in removing files from the server so that they can be under the alloted quota.

3. Warning: could not send message for past 14 hours

Problem:
A mail server (either a WFU mail server or an external mail server like AOL, microsoft.com, etc) involved with the delivery of this message is experiencing unanticipated downtime.

Solution:
There is no need to resend the email as it will automatically be sent when the server becomes available.

4. Returned mail: see transcript for details

Problem:
There may be a problem with either the sender's or the recipient's mail server that has prevented this email from being delivered.

Solution:
Send the message again or if you have a wfu.edu email address contact the Help Desk at 758-HELP or via email at E-mail Us.
